February 2008 Meeting

Time: ASSE/AWMA meeting 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Lunch at 11:45 a.m.; Contractor/Excavator Awareness Program from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Location: Lubbock Power & Light Administration Building, 404 Municipal Hill, Lubbock, TX. Training Room A128. (Please do not park near the entrance to the building so those spaces can be reserved for LP&L on call personnel)
Topic: Underground Pipeline Damage Prevention, Dig Tess Lunch is being provided by Poly Vann of V-Tech Environmental. Contact Renee Witherspoon at 775-2519 for more information and to RSVP for lunch.

June 9, 2005 The South Plains Chapter joined with the Mayor of the City of Lubbock in the Proclamation of the month of June 2005 as "National Safety Awareness Month" in Lubbock
All tours, special events, demonstrations, or conferences will be posted here and details provided to members via our South Plains Chapter Newsletter.
Examples of some previous demonstrations include:
- The underground rescue procedure of an unconscious victim was performed as seen through a cut away side of a trailer simulating the below ground activities.
- The effects of high voltage electrical lines on power poles and its effects on various materials were displayed by use of the Southwester Public Service demonstration trailer.
- The use of fire extinguishers and self contained breathing apparatus were presented and performed by member present. This demonstration was provided by Daco Fire Equipment Inc.
Examples of some previous tours include:
- The equipment, procedures and capabilities of the Lubbock Fire Department's High Angle and Heavy Rescue Team as presented by Station
- The process and procedures of an operating cotton gin was provided by Buster Gin.
- The operations and control station of the Southwest Public Service Company was demonstrated to our members.
- The manufacturing of heavy equipment was provided by Eagle Pitcher Manufacturing.
- The safety program and power generation station of Southwest Public Service Company.
- The manufacturing process and safety program of injection molding.
- The safety programs and a plant tour of the Texas Instrument Plan
